Why booster fans get installed here

The cause is usually run length. Hillside and two-story homes put laundry upstairs. That exhaust climbs vertically through a roof jack. Attic runs from hallway closets add elbows. Each 90-degree elbow eats equivalent duct length. Manufacturer limits get exceeded before the duct ever reaches daylight. The dryer then runs long cycles and sheds lint early.

A booster fan is an inline blower set in the run. It needs line voltage nearby and a switch that senses dryer operation (a pressure switch or a current sensor on the dryer cord). Ducting on both sides should be rigid metal, not foil flex. We leave an access point at the fan. The impeller collects lint and has to be opened and cleaned.

Clean before you boost. Half the homes we look at have a roof-jack screen packed solid or a bird guard full of nesting from the canyon side. Some have a flapper hood stuck shut too. A fan pushing against that fixes nothing. Crushed transition hose behind a pedestal set is the same story.

Gas dryers deserve caution. Restricted exhaust pushes moisture and combustion byproducts back into the laundry room. We confirm the dryer is listed for a booster and that the run genuinely needs one. Sometimes rerouting shorter beats adding hardware.
